2018 Alumni Awards Recipients Announced
Òùµ´ÉÙ¸¾ President Scott D. Miller has announced the 2018 Alumni Awards recipients--Joe Ruddy '83, Chief Innovation Officer at The Port of Virginia (Distinguished Alumni Award), Clayton Singleton '94, Artist/Teacher at Norfolk Public Schools (Alumni Service Award), and Alisa Crider '10, Public Relations Coordinator at Hampton Roads Transit (Graduate of the Last Decade Award). The awards recipients will be honored during the annual Founders Day festivities on September 6. More
Summer Scholars
Twenty-two rising ninth-grade girls were on campus July 23-27 to participate in VWU's first Environmental Institute: Summer Scholars Program. The residential environmental science program enabled the girls to participate in authentic environmental science, technology, engineering, and math (E-STEM) experiences. More

Hultgren to Highlight Founders Day Festivities
Virginia Wesleyan's longest-tenured faculty member, Larry Hultgren, will serve as keynote speaker at the Founders Day Convocation on Thursday, September 6, at 11 a.m. in Convocation Hall of the Jane P. Batten Student Center. More
Passing of Virginia Wesleyan Trustee Anne B. Shumadine
Longtime Trustee Anne B. Shumadine passed away on July 24. Shumadine joined the Board of Trustees in 2005. Her mother, Helen Ballard Hoffman, also served on the Board for more than 35 years, and her son, Jim Shumadine, recently joined the Board, representing three generations of service to Virginia Wesleyan. Virginia Wesleyan Again Named a "Best College" by The Princeton Review
The Princeton Review has again selected Virginia Wesleyan as one of the nation's best institutions for undergraduate education. The University is featured in the 2019 edition of its college guide, "The Best 384 Colleges." The rankings are based on surveys of 138,000 students at 384 top colleges that includes a wide representation by region, size, selectivity and character. In its profile on Virginia Wesleyan, The Princeton Review praises the institution for being "the quintessential small liberal arts university, providing undergraduates with a close-knit community where one can easily build strong relationships." Each August, prior to the start of the fall semester, VWU President Scott D. Miller delivers a State of the University address to the campus community. The address includes highlights, initiatives, and significant accomplishments from the past year, recognition of faculty and staff, points of pride, recent University news and information, current campus projects and direction for the future of the University. The 2018 State of the University Address will be on Friday, August 24 at 12:15 p.m.
