Come Home, Marlins!

An exciting lineup of events is planned for Spring Alumni Weekend, April 5 and 6

Spring Alumni Weekend is the perfect time for alumni to come home to campus! This year’s event is scheduled for April 5 and 6, so mark your calendars and make plans to join in the fun and festivities. From the Marlin Family Picnic and alumni games to class reunions for the Class of 1999 and the Class of 1974, it’s sure to be the perfect time to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with an alumni gathering at Shorebreak Pizza and Taphouse from 5 – 7 p.m. There is also a VWU Theatre production of "Anastasia" on Friday at 8 p.m. in the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center on campus. Performances of "Anatasia" are also scheduled throughout the weekend—on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Marlin Family Picnic will take place near Birdsong Field on Saturday from 11 – 3 p.m. with a picnic-style lunch, live entertainment from Astro DJ, drinks available in the Hoffman beverage tent, special delights such as cotton candy, face painting, a bounce house and more.

Faculty presentations and panels are also scheduled for Saturday, April 6. Professor of Philosophy Dr. Larry Hultgren, who is retiring after 55 years of service to Virginia Wesleyan, will deliver a lecture at 11 p.m. in Blocker Auditorium. Professors Terry Lindvall and Stu Minnis will present their documentary, “Hollywood, Teach Us to Pray,” at 3 p.m. in Clarke Hall. And, Dr. Elizabeth Malcolm with host a panel of alumni who are professionals in the field of healthcare at 1 p.m. in the Greer Environmental Sciences Center.

Members of the Classes of 1974 and 1999 will be invited to add their signatures to the University Scroll in commemoration of their 25th and 50th commencement anniversaries. A special reunion tent will provide an opportunity for them to mix and mingle with classmates, faculty, staff and current students.

Alumni games for women’s soccer, field hockey, volleyball and men’s soccer are also an important part of the weekend. In addition, VWU Softball and Women’s Lacrosse host home games on Saturday at 1 p.m.
