VWU Continues Campus Upgrades to Athletic Facilities

New locker rooms and public restrooms to enhance student-athlete and spectator experience

University News | June 30, 2023

Òùµ´ÉÙ¸¾ is making significant strides in upgrading its athletic facilities this summer, ensuring that the campus remains a premier venue for sporting events. Construction projects across campus are well underway, with several facilities receiving much-needed improvements to better serve student-athletes and spectators.

One notable project nearing completion is the construction of the Eleanor and Henry Watts Field House at Tom and Betty Broyles Field. Named in honor of Trustee Emeritus D. Henry Watts and his wife Eleanor, this state-of-the-art facility will feature modern amenities for both athletes and spectators. The Watts Field House will provide spacious restrooms for spectators and also offer enhanced locker room space, including team restrooms, for the highly successful Marlin softball team, which has clinched the national championship three times. The university expresses its gratitude to Eleanor and Henry for their longstanding support of Virginia Wesleyan.

Simultaneously, construction has recently commenced on a dedicated locker room facility for the Marlins baseball team at Kenneth R. Perry Field. The new facility will boast customized "MLB style lockers," providing the Marlin athletes with a professional and personalized environment.

In addition to these construction projects, the university has recently completed the resurfacing of TowneBank Arena in the Jane P. Batten Student Center and the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center as part of its routine maintenance plan. This initiative included repainting the lines in both venues, revitalizing their appearance and functionality. Furthermore, this week, the competitive surfaces at the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center underwent their fifth-year servicing, ensuring optimal conditions for athletic events.

Òùµ´ÉÙ¸¾ remains committed to maintaining top-tier facilities that excel within the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and beyond. These ongoing renovations and upgrades signify the university's dedication to providing an exceptional athletic experience for its student athletes and spectators alike.
