The VWU Global Japan Study Abroad Program provides Virginia Wesleyan students the unique opportunity to take general education, major, and minor courses in Tokyo, Japan. Example fields of study include business, history, and media and communications. Students also have the opportunity to take courses unique to Japan, including The Way of Tea, Japanese language, Eastern Religious Traditions, and U.S.-Japan Relations. Additionally, this is one of the few study abroad programs where students are able to undertake paid work/internships experiences, on the Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) campus, of up to 28 hours a week.
LUJ/VWU Global and Life in Tokyo
Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) is a Bachelor’s and Associate of Arts Degree-granting liberal arts institution with over 300+ students enrolled across 40+ countries. The VWU Global Japan Study Abroad Program is a jointly operated campus in Tokyo, Japan coordinated by VWU Global and Lakeland University Japan (LUJ).
Lakeland University Japan is located in the heart of Ryogoku - the center of sumo wrestling in the world and is located just minutes from the train station, in a serene location surrounded by parks, museums, and the Sumida River. The Edo-Tokyo, Sword, Earthquake and Sumida Hokusai Museums are all within a 10-minute walk. The Former Yasuda Garden and the Yokoamicho Park are just across the street. VWU students will live in a newly built dorm with other international students in single rooms with shared bathrooms and kitchen access.
Study in a city of 35 million people and unlimited opportunities--New York City may be the city that never sleeps, but Tokyo is the city that never ceases to amaze!
